One of the primary bioactive compounds in Bakuchi (Babchi) oil is bakuchiol. Bakuchiol has been reported to exhibit retinol-like activity. It is hypothesized to be biosynthesized in the body via pathways analogous to those producing retinol (vitamin A) and is considered to have improved tolerability and bioavailability compared to contemporary retinol. 
 
Psoralen is another compound of molecule present in small quantities in pure Bakuchi oil. Psoralen are furocoumarin (highly effective in the treatment of skin conditions) that make the skin react with light/sun. This is why it is important to use only at night.
